Our April meeting was a hands on event led by Gareth Garner showing members how to turn a seed pot former used to make newspaper seed pots.Gareth mounted a 21⁄2" square x 8" long blank between centres. He followed safety procedures checking that the tool rest was clear before turning the lathe on.

Gareth roughed the blank to round and turned a spigot on each end to fit the chuck jaws . He used a parting tool and callipers to do this.Next Gareth marked the division for the top and bottom of the former at about 13⁄4" from the end and parted the work off at that point. The top section was then mounted in the chuck ready to shape.
