Meet Our Club

We are a small group of amateur and professional woodturners who meet once a month, (usually the third Sunday), at the Community Centre in Robertsbridge, East Sussex.

Our rural club is run by a Committee with members of a wide range of woodturning skills as well as new members. All members are encouraged to participate in the running of and decision making in the club.

Membership is kept to around 50 so as to maintain a personal and friendly atmosphere. We welcome diversity, inclusivity and gender equality. Indeed some of our best turners are women!

Our club has always placed great emphasis on friendliness and encouragement and has many members and their friends who come for the sociability and companionship, particularly older members. We encourage and support people of all ages, and invite members of the three local Men’s Shed groups to our demonstrations. 

We regularly support local craft fairs to help keep traditional skills alive while embracing new techniques. We also host competitions and social events to foster camaraderie and unity among our members. We place particular emphasis on welcoming novices and newcomers, ensuring they receive the necessary tuition to thrive and enjoy the art of woodturning. Woodturning is an amazing craft for taxing the brain and stimulating invention with the emphasis on enjoyment and sharing experience.

As a community-focused club, we actively engage with the local population by inviting schools, scout groups and non-members to our demonstrations. Our four demonstrations a year by professional woodturners give a whole day of tuition plus free coffee and tea and a great welcoming environment and are often attended by members of other clubs in Kent and Sussex. In addition, members of the club are able to use the facilities and learn how to woodturn without having to purchase their own equipment making the club available to everyone. 

Meetings normally follow one of three formats:-
'Hands on' sessions using the six club lathes
Invited turners demonstrating their skills
Competitions / Social days when partners are invited.
