July 2026 - Another One for Gardeners

In April Gareth Garner showed members how to make a pot former for biodegradable newspaper seed pots. Last month Fred Mitchell demonstrated turning a dibber and depth marker for transplanting seedlings.


After the notices Fred began by mounting a piece of oak roughly

2"x8"long. He used crown centres, also called steb centres, for a secure

hold. He roughed the blank to round then raised the tool rest as he was

going to do most of the work with a skew chisel which needs to be cutting

just above centre. Fred marked the handle section turning it to a

comfortable size to fit the users hand....
